Zoom! WhiteSpeed Teeth Whitening
Dr. Schofield is proud to offer the radically new “Zoom! WhiteSpeed” in-office tooth whitening system that uses a full-mouth bleaching light combined with a revolutionary 25% Hydrogen Peroxide light activated gel to lighten teeth 6 to 10 shades in about an hour.
For most of history, if someone had dull, yellow or even brown teeth, there was not much that could be done about it. There simply was no way to safely remove stubborn stains and give the patient a brighter, cleaner looking smile. Fortunately, we have come a long way in the development of cosmetic treatments. One of the most popular of these is the ability to professionally whiten the teeth, safely and easily. It’s easy to see why it’s so popular; this easy, non-invasive, convenient, affordable and effective cosmetic treatment that almost anyone can take advantage of.
The first of these cosmetic whitening techniques was the use of whitening gels with custom trays that patients use in a prescribed manner, at home. Many satisfied patients have taken advantage of this type of whitening treatment, and it remains a popular choice to this day. At-home treatments whiten the teeth over time, normally a period of a few weeks, so if you’d rather not draw attention to the fact that you are whitening your teeth, at-home treatments may be the right choice for you. This type of professional treatment can be used in conjunction with in-office treatments, but should always be used as the dentist prescribes. Dentist-supervised at-home treatments also yield better results than the over-the-counter products that you can get at the pharmacy, as they contain a higher concentration of bleaching agent.
Following the introduction of custom tray bleaching gel systems, another innovation was discovered in the form of light activation of dental bleach, and the Zoom! Whitening system was born. Professional, in-office whitening sessions can get your teeth up to eight shades whiter in 45 minutes. Zoom! is great for patients who want fast, long-lasting results. Need to look your best for a wedding or other event? Zoom! is a great choice.
What are the Benefits?
For patients who have experienced the loss of confidence to smile due to dull teeth, having the teeth whitened can be more of a boost than you might expect. We all like to look our best for our friends and loved ones. Being reluctant to smile affects more than just how you look; it can affect how you are perceived by others. By renewing your confidence and smiling more, your self-esteem is boosted. Having a great looking smile paired with self-confidence is a great way to make the best first impressions possible. This can have dramatic impacts on your personal and professional lives.
How Does Zoom! WhiteSpeed Work?
Because professional grade whitening gel is stronger than the over-the-counter type, a protective substance is applied to the soft oral tissues to prevent any kind of tissue damage. Protective eyewear is also used. Then the peroxide gel is painted onto the teeth, after which the activation light is used to deeply penetrate stains in the teeth. Depending on the individual patient’s needs, the procedure may be done in one sitting of about 45 minutes. Some patients may opt for having successive treatments to reach the shade they prefer.
Who Is It For?
Most patients who are in generally good health can undergo this type of tooth whitening. However, if any of the following describe you, we recommend that you consult your medical doctor before undergoing the Zoom! Light activated process:
1) pregnancy or lactation
2) children under 13 years old
3) experiencing light sensitivity (commonly due to medications)
4) undergoing chemotherapy
5) in treatment for serious illness such as uncontrolled diabetes or AIDS
If Zoom! In-office treatment is not right for you, talk to Dr. Schofield about our at-home treatments.
In addition, it’s good to note that teeth staining due to tetracycline or other drugs taken during tooth formation may not respond to Zoom!
How Long Do the Results Last?
This is up to the patient. The habits that caused your teeth staining to begin with will continue to stain your teeth after whitening. Avoiding tobacco products, as well as highly pigmented foods and beverages, can make your whitening procedure longer lasting. If you do drink coffee, tea, or red wines, you can reduce the staining on your teeth by rinsing the mouth with plain water.
What About Sensitivity?
Some patients report minor sensitivity following a session of Zoom! This is temporary and is most common among patients who are already prone to sensitivity due to gum recession, micro-cracks in the teeth, or loose fillings. If you have any concerns, let the dentist know during your consultation.
